Informatics for Climate Empowerment @ Berkeley

We are a newly launched multidisciplinary lab at the UC Berkeley School of Information. Our goals are:
  • To understand the information needs and behaviors of individuals and communities confronting the effects of climate change
  • To develop information tools to support their efforts in climate mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation
  • To train the next generation of information leaders for our societal transition to a sustainable and just climate future

Building on our collective expertise across multiple disciplines, we pursue a range of research and education initiatives: from participatory and speculative design activities to learn from diverse communities, to planet-centric monitoring tools based on remote sensing and AI; from interrogating the ethics and values of entrenched and emerging tools and discourses, to developing curricular innovations for future climate technologists.
